He House

The design of the He House was focused on using the surrounding natural landscape as a main component in the experience of the home. Our design seeks to respect and give prominence to this serene natural landscape from within the home by introducing large windows on both the upper and lower floors as a way of framing this borrowed landscape.

This home seeks to bring the natural world into its interior spaces, with the existing landscape supplemented with an internal courtyard to create intriguing layers of interior and exterior spaces as one moves through the house. The design prioritizes a sensitivity to the site in order to encourage a sense of cohesion between the existing conditions and proposed design. By utilizing the existing slope, the site’s grades will remain relatively intact with only minimal grading in the front yard to lower the driveway. Since the relationship between interior and exterior spaces is so critical for the experience of the house, the landscape has been thoughtfully designed to provide lush, layered, gardens that will evolve throughout the seasons.
